Undo and history
Lemon Studio keeps one history for the whole project. Press Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Alt+Z to redo. Ctrl+Shift+Z also redoes. The EDIT menu names the step it will act on, such as Undo step seq edit, and the status bar says what a key did.
Jump back with History
Section titled “Jump back with History”The browser’s Current project ▸ History lists every step by name, from Last reset, which is the project as you opened it.
- VIEW ▸ Undo history opens the list.
- Click a step to go back or forward to it. Undone steps are grey.
- Make a new edit after going back and the undone steps are gone.
What counts as a step
Section titled “What counts as a step”Each of these is one step, whatever it changes:
- Notes and clips: an edit in the piano roll or the arranger, a click on a step, a whole command such as Quantize…, and each recorded take.
- Knobs and faders: one drag is one step, and a typed value is one too. A run of wheel notches counts once.
- The mixer: routing, effects added or moved, names and colours, tracks added or deleted.
- The rack: instruments added, replaced, moved, cloned or deleted, with their notes, clips and settings.
- The project: the tempo, the project’s settings and FILE ▸ Import ▸ MIDI file… into the open project.
- Plugins: a parameter changed in the plugin’s own window, one step per gesture, and a preset loaded into it.
What doesn’t undo
Section titled “What doesn’t undo”- A mixer track’s mute and solo, which make no step.
- Arming a track for recording, and the Record button itself.
- A plugin’s own undo inside its window, which is separate from Lemon Studio’s. Changes a plugin makes by itself, such as picking from its own preset browser, make no step because Lemon Studio isn’t told about them.
- Copy to B and Restretch all, which don’t change what’s in the project.
- Window positions and the program’s own settings, which aren’t part of a project.
- Opening or starting a project, which starts a new history. The history isn’t saved in the file.
Tesla keeps its own history for edits to its audio.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”OPTIONS ▸ General settings has an Undo history group:
- Maximum undo levels: 100 by default. Past that, the oldest step goes.
- Undo knob tweaks: untick it and knob and fader moves make no steps.
- Alternate undo mode: on by default, as described above. Off, Ctrl+Z flips the last step back and forth, and Ctrl+Alt+Z steps further back.
- Show undo history in the browser when undoing changes opens the History list when you undo.
- Show recent changes at the top puts the newest step first.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Undo only goes back through this session. For anything older, FILE ▸ Restore backup… opens the project’s newest backup. File settings sets how often backups are made.
